I just finished re-reading The Heroin Diaries a few days ago... I hadn't read the book since I first bought it. (It's not really one of those you pick up all the time to re-read, but nonetheless a great book).  Despite the dark subject matter, I had forgotten how funny some of it actually is- the backstage stories, etc. I was just curious to see if any of you Rockheads have read the book, and if so, what did you think?

Also, just on the subject of music biographies in general, what are your favorites? I love to read, and biographies are by far my fave...Another great book you should check out if you're a Beatles fan is The Love You Make by Peter Brown... Brown was a personal assistant to the Beatles & their manager Brian Epstein during the 1960's, and later was a board member of the Beatles company Apple Corps. (and also served as a witness at John Lennon & Yoko Ono's wedding). So he obviously was close with the band...and I've read many, many Beatles-related books- it's by far my favorite.

A few other favorites just to throw out there...The Rockabilly Legends by Jerry Naylor, Cash- the Autobiography by Johnny Cash (duh), and White Line Fever- The Autobiography by Lemmy Kilmister and Janiss Garza...(how can you NOT love Lemmy?!)

But probably what would surprise lots of you (include my two angry guys) is that my favorite book EVER is by the late sports writer Dick Schapp...it's the story of his life, which whether involving sports or not was one helluva interesting ride...it's out of print now but if you wanna check it out you can probably find it on Amazon.com or one of those sites...it's called Dick Schaap As Told To by Dick Schaap; 50 Years of Headlines, Deadlines & Punchlines.  Good stuff!!

Re: Whatcha Reading?

"The Really Inconvenient Truth" by Iain Murray. I have always felt Al Gore is full of #$%$ concerning man made 'global warming' and this book blows the lid off of his lB.S., not to mention alot of other crap the media decides not to cover. It's no wonder so many people listen to talk radio. This is a great book!

Re: Whatcha Reading?

I grew up on rock bios. You have to read Jimi Hendrix - Electric Gypsy, The Doors - No One Here Gets Out Alive, Led Zeppelin - Hammer of the Gods and Stairway to Heaven, Janis Joplin - Janis, and Kiss - Behind the Mask. Currently I'm reading Uncle Tom's Cabin (no, not the Warrant bio).

Mostly history, Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, American Creation, 1776, Hitler Youth and the S.S., But My favorite is also a biography but probably not something that you may like but maybe Harry Truman's. He once called Joseph Stalin to his face a moronic Sociopath.

Re: Whatcha Reading?

The drummer for Rush, Neil Peart, is very literate, especially for a drummer. He's written several first person, autobiographical books. I think his best is Ghost Rider. It is easily his most personal.
He refers to his books as travel books. He likes the format and he's stuck to it. His first is called the Masked Rider and it chronicals a bike ride he took in Africa. Ghost Rider chronicals the cross continent motorcylce trips he took after his daughter and wife died. Road Show is likely his funniest. It tells about his down time between shows on one of the recent tours. He's a kind of crusty old fart, quite frankly, but I have found all three to be good reads.
